I am moved to paint for the pleasure and spiritual experience, working in an organic and spontaneous way so that I channel my subconscious flow. In this way I can paint what moves people, the unseen edges of a felt sense. Spirit shows up, pushing at my doors, and insists that I let it manifest through me. This movement of working through ideas with my hands brings me joy and grace. Working the paintbrush is healing, visceral, and messy!
I have always been intrigued by dynamics of energy captured through color and form. First attracted to the surface, the underlying spirit of a painting is what draws me deeper. I begin a piece by improvisation, dripping paint and water and brushing it around until most of the white is covered. This way I have something I can respond to, building layers and letting the piece grow organically. Sometimes spare and delicate, others abundant and vibrant, the paintings express things that are mysterious yet resonant.
