Tree Views is a study of the relationships within
the natural life/death cycle of all things on earth. After the volcanic
eruption of Mt. St. Helen's in Washington, the surrounding forests
were left flattened, with massive tree trunks lying down in a pattern
reflecting the direction of the blast. The "forests" were
dead, dry and bleached grey, stripped of their bark and branches.
I photographed portraits of the few trees left standing, those
with a clear view of the entire surrounding mountain hills, but
with no sign of life in sight. The photos are printed on blueprint
paper, which over time fades in the sunlight. The windows boxes
are lined with natural objects: pumice stone, dead sticks, bleached
sea shells, rusted iron bolts, and one fresh-cut tree log. |
