Hither Hills / These Places Unknown: Hither Hills State Park (NY) is a petrified forest with small tree stumps that are, over time, covered and then uncovered by sand dunes.

I was interested in the moonlike landscape, and recorded the tree remains by walking around them and in extreme close up shots. The frantic handheld movements reinforce the alien feel, as does the soundtrack of audio feedback tones and knocking.

The screen is divided in half, with the right half a rescanned close up of the left half, representing consciousness and subconsciousness.
